Time just burned through today, and I don’t even know where it went.
It was the last regular school day for Vino this day, so I packed his swimming clothes and school stuff. No special events this day, but Thursday will be the last official day of the school year.
Vino usually starts very slow in the morning, and while he’s formed a habit of watching something while he eats, but I made it a rule that he shouldn’t do that on schooday breakfasts.
After I took him to school, I planned on walking around, but I wasn’t able to pack my water bottle and it was drizzling a bit so I decided against it.
I got home before 10AM, which felt like there was going to be a lot of time to do stuff at home. I fell to a bit of doomscrolling before ADHD kicked in and prevented me from accomplishing things.
I wanted to write my blog, but I opened a window and remembered I should do something for work. Before that finished, I remembered no one was going to wash the dishes. Before I started the dishes, I figured I should put the clothes in the washer. By the time I got to the room to get the clothes, I saw that I had to fix the bed.
It’s this endless loop of constantly finding things to do when I should just be finishing one thing first. Next thing I know, it’s 12 noon already. I got a quick catch up call and suddenly it’s almost time to pick Vino up, and I haven’t had lunch yet.
It was too damn hot when I picked up Vino. He brought his football with the intention of playing with his friends. But I told him not this day, because the heat was going to be bad for him. Additionally, he had football practice later, so he needs to get as much rest as he needs.
Over the past week, Vino discovered the wonder of Subway. I ordered him a cold cut trio the first time around. The next time we went, he went for the egg mayo sandwich. I felt that this wasn’t the way to go on Subway.
He liked it enough though, so I said I’ll do it for him next time so I don’t have to spend on Subway. I dug up an old recipe I found from the last time I made it for him and adjusted some stuff with the hope of him liking this version.
I used four eggs instead of six, because I figured it would be easier to finish by myself if he didn’t like it. Thankfully, he was good with it and downed a couple of sandwiches.
We made our way to football practice and we were there just in time. I brought my own ball so I can throw up a few shots while Vino practiced. I watched a couple of their drills just to try and copy what I can for when Vino is on school break and we’re in the PH.
I got about 45minutes of shooting done, and when I got back, I learned that one of the parents was actually a former basketball player in Europe. At first I thought she was joking when she said she almost joined me for hoops, but after some time talking, I learned that she did play hoops before.
They are a family of five, one boy playing as Vino’s teammate and the other boy in the next age group. They also have a daughter who I assume is in her teens because they are apparently joining her for a golf tournament in Bali next week.
She said they usually alternate going home to her hometown in England and her husband’s home of New Zealand but decided that this year, they were staying put for the summer.
It’s why I am thankful that we have been in Singapore and Vietnam. While we’re away from home, it’s close enough to just go when we need to. Of course, Che and I discussed the possibility of moving elsewhere, and the thought of the expense that Vino’s teammate’s family has is precisely why we said flying home to the PH as frequent as we do will not be a norm if we do move further away.
We talked as the kids were playing, so there were moments that our conversations would be interrupted by amazing moves, goals, or saves.
The match ended 7-8, with Vino’s team losing. It is a lot of points for a football game, but the goalkeepers aren’t really big enough to cover the whole goal and aren’t quick enough yet to react to strong goals. While Vino conceded eight goals, he did save a lot, with some in amazing fashion.
I’m happy that he doesn’t get as frustrated now as he did before though. I can see he’s a bit sad that he missed saving a goal, but he is learning to dust himself off and move on to saving the next one.
We got home and had dinner. I told Vino we needed to finish my batch of meatballs for a quick dinner. Popped it in the airfryer as Vino was taking a bath and I got some clothes into the washing machine.
I got this gojuchang paste for rice that Che brought home from Korea and I can’t get enough of it when we’re eating dry food. It’s different from the regular gojuchang because this one is seasoned.
I can probably make my own because I saw a recipe online. But as long as I have this, I probably won’t bother.
We prepped for bedtime and Vino had a quick call with Che while I was in the shower. Vino had K-Pop Demon Hunter on TV for the second straight night, so I guess he liked it.
After he slept, I fell asleep as well, but I wanted to get up at 12 midnight so I can try to book discounted tickets for a Friday activity via Klook. I was on the payment page already earlier in the morning but I waited for the confirmation of one of the parents and held off buying it for fear of buying a needless ticket.
Unfortunately, it keeps saying it’s sold out but I can’t input my preferred date. I thought maybe at 12 midnight, I can try booking it for a “next day” ticket. Didn’t work. 12:30AM, same thing. 1AM, said the same thing. So I guess the vouchers are sold out already, which sucks because it’s about 40 dollars more than the discounted price.
Anyway, I told myself I should get sleep and try again tomorrow.
