Vino was feeling a bit sick and lethargic, so we decided to have him skip football gameday, which meant we could visit church in the afternoon.
We spent the day lounging around the house, which usually happens after finishing late the night before. Meanwhile, Vino was still a bit lethargic, having less energy than usual. He said his foot hurts and he couldn’t run, so we had to beg off from the match that we signed up to participate in.
Che binge-watched this Chinese drama that she started a few days before. After I watched K-Dramas, I didn’t want to go down the rabbit hole of watching other Asian dramas, so I refrained from watching Chinese, Jap, or Thai series. We do watch Pinoy series from time to time.
So when Che just wants to watch something by herself, she would usually go C-Dramas. This one never really got my attention because, apart from it being Chinese, it was also a period drama, which I don’t really watch much of.
For lunch, we decided to cook some of the leftover steak from last night’s dinner. It was cooked well enough, so the best I could think of was to cook it as a saucy salpicao.
I marinated it with a combination of soy sauce, oyster sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, olive oil, salt, pepper, and brown sugar. It’s my usual salpicao sauce recipe.
I toasted some garlic that I chopped, took them out after they were crispy, and cooked the meat there. After I felt that the meat was cooked to my liking, I took them out and poured in the sauce. I added some water because while my Salpicao is usually dry with a little bit of sauce, I knew that the flavors wouldn’t seep in as well because I put in already-cooked meat.
I feel like it turned out well. I gave Vino the tenderloin parts, because the striploin fats were a bit tough for him to chew on.
I took a bit of a nap after lunch, then cleaned up to get ready for church.
The issue I have with church is that sometimes, the priests tend to ramble about nothing. This Sunday, the celebrant was a guy who I feel is a bit rude and has a lot of main character energy.
His homily was filled with a lot of loud statements followed by long pauses, but when you break it down, it’s not cohesive and doesn’t convey a single message. It would be nice if he had several points, but it just seemed like he was repeatedly giving bad examples in a shouting manner. My eyebrows were crumpled throughout the whole homily.
It’s sad because I do want Vino to learn the Catholic ways. However, if I bring him to catechism class and he’s one of the main guys who would lead it, I’m not sure if he would develop a deep connection with faith or religion.
Here in Singapore, he apparently needs to attend some kind of bridging program in order to join a catechism class because he’s not in a Catholic school. Unfortunately, the sign-up period for the program ended in December, so we have to wait another year for it, go through it for a year, and only then can he sign up for catechism class to prepare himself for Holy Communion.
I understand it’s not easy to teach religion, but all these steps make it feel like it’s difficult to be a practicing Catholic. I guess I never had that issue because I grew up in a Catholic school.
Anyway, I hope that we can figure it out soon so that we can prepare Vino to receive the sacraments he needs at his age.
