I started the week with a run, but I ended the day with a visit to the hospital for Vino.
I’m looking to keep running a part of my routines, so I want to keep doing it at least three times a week. While I was able to play basketball last Saturday, that was the only exercise I had for the weekend.
I wanted to run at West Coast Park for an easy-paced session, but I wasn’t able to pack an extra shirt, so I decided to go on a route that would lead straight home. For the past couple of runs, I went through One-North and Kent Ridge, so now I opted to go through Buona Vista.
I started my run from our old neighborhood’s playground all the way to the Rail Corridor entrance at Buona Vista.
The route goes all the way through Woodlands, but I haven’t really seen the other side of the path, as I always used the trail to go home.
Che bought some UV protection sleeves, which I used today because it’s getting hotter in Singapore. The Rail Corridor is actually pretty shaded, but having the sleeves is nice for those unshaded areas.
I ran until I reached the Alexandra Retail Center and took the shortcut heading home. I have two different readings from trackers – Strava had me at exactly 6 kilometers, while my watch said I ran for a bit longer. I use Strava to track the distance I travel, while my watch is used to track my heart rate and pace.
I feel like I’m over pacing again. I think I need to try running at a park next time so that there’s no distraction of pedestrians, bikes, or traffic lights.
Still, I’m happy with my progress. I’m down nine kilograms through two and a half months.
Exercise and eating better have helped a lot in bringing down my weight, and I’m hoping that my cholesterol and sugar levels are trending in the right direction when I have my check-up in May.
I decided to visit Queensway Shopping Centre because I wanted to buy basketball shoes. My current pair is wrecked, I think, so it would be good to get a new one before my game on Wednesday.
Some friends suggested some shoes I could get for outdoor playing, and none of those were available in the shops I checked out. Singapore is still very much a football country, so there weren’t a lot of options for basketball shoes here.
I was able to get some curry chicken and a replacement hat for the one that I lost in Jeju.
I picked up Vino, and I accompanied him to the hospital. He had been lethargic since Saturday night, but he was better after a good rest on Sunday. He got through a full day in school, which was a good sign. However, Che and I decided he should have a check up because he also feels some stomach discomfort at times when he plays football.
We went to NUH, which has excellent service. However, since we’re not really in that much of an emergency, we had to wait for quite a while.
When he was checked, we learned that it’s not too much to worry about. It may be indigestion or stomach flu, but it should be expelled when he poops. He was given some probiotics and medicine to prevent him from vomiting.
It took about four hours of our lives, but at least we got clarity on what’s going on with him, and we were given medicine for what he was currently feeling. Doc said getting stomach pains when he runs is not unusual, as the body sometimes produces chemicals that might upset his stomach when he exerts a lot of effort.
She said it would be best for him to do proper stretches or warmups before playing, keep hydrated, and breathe well.
I think we should have gone to the doctor in our neighborhood, but it completely slipped my mind that he was available at 6pm on Mondays. Still, heading straight to NUH was good because if we needed tests, at least we were there already.
I hope that Vino only has an upset stomach, and the probiotics would do the trick. Che is scared that he might have inherited her gastric issues, but maybe it’s too early for us to be worried about that.
