After sending Vino to school and with Che at work, I get a chance to do things for myself.

Today, I thought I’d schedule a haircut on the other side of the island. I was looking for a salon that would have specialty on cutting. Some of the styles I wanted for my hair required a perm, but if I wanted Vino to cut his hair short, I wouldn’t want him to get a perm.

Vino’s hair has gotten so long, and I didn’t want it cut with a random kid’s cut. So I hoped to find a nice salon that would take care of it.

I found this salon located in Joo Chiat that looked like they could do the job well. I read up on their stylists and requested for one of three guys I thought would fit the style I wanted.

Alex was able to help me get a nice style for my hair, and I enjoyed talking to him through the whole cut. As he was styling my hair, he asked me what I honestly thought about it. I said I usually re-style my hair after leaving a salon, but I felt like how he styled it is actually in line with how I would like to fix it.

I went outside to find a route heading home. When I reached a corner, I remembered Joo Chiat is home to some popular food spots, so I thought I’d walk around first. I thought I’d message Steph and James if they were home, but looking at my map, it looked far from their place, so I decided I’d just walk and find something that would interest my taste buds.

I found several interesting cafes, a lot of Vietnamese restaurants, and some random Mexican or Italian spots here and there. I even saw a nice steakhouse, but I thought it would be too red meat-heavy for me, especially with the low-cholesterol diet.

I was thinking I wasn’t going to be able to exercise this day because I had my had to travel far for the haircut, but as I walked around, I reached PLQ Mall, which was a marker that I think was close to Steph and James’ place.

Initially, I wasn’t sweating too much, but by the time I reached PLQ, my shirt was drenched. It was then that I thought I should have turned on my Strava to at least see how far I walked. Either way, I think it was a good enough exercise for the day.

It’s one of the things that I enjoy here in Singapore, because apart from parks, the streets are really nice to walk around in. It’s damn hot, but I feel safe, and there are plenty of interesting architecture to be seen.

Steph shared her lunch with me, as I stayed over just to cool down. It was sweltering hot outside, but I was able to walk along shaded paths. After cooling down, I walked to the train station to pick up Vino.

The timing was just nice, and at least I didn’t have to spend too much on a cab. Vino asked if he could play with his friends, and since we didn’t have anything planned and it’s a holiday tomorrow, I said it should be fine.

It was a quiet night for us, which we spent mostly watching TV and playing together. Che met some friends, so it was just Vino and me staying up late together.

Basketball friends are setting up a game in the morning, but I’m not sure if I want to join in as the floor might be wet. Besides, Vino’s friends are coming over from around 10 or 11am, so I think it would be best to stay and sleep in for a change.
