I’ve breached a month and a half of my new diet and lifestyle, and I think it’s been going pretty well.
I know I’ve been quite heavy for a while, but I never realized how heavy I looked until I saw pictures of my then and now. All the effort in minding my food and doing exercises has shown results, so now, it’s a matter of keeping the momentum going.
Vino would have football training in the evening, so I could run or play basketball then. However, I had a few things on my mind that I wanted to distract myself from, so I went on a morning run instead. I decided to run on the rail corridor after dropping Vino off at school.
As per Nicky’s instructions, I was to run a pace that is between 7:30 to 8:00/km for two kilometers. While I’ve walked around this route before, I haven’t really tracked the distance yet, so I didn’t know how long the run was going to be if I ran the whole stretch of it.
I’m still learning about pacing, but I have a better idea now. I understand I have to be patient, though. There was a guy I ran past because he was walking, and when he started running, he easily went past me. I could still see him, so I felt like I wanted to catch up. But I knew that if I did go faster, I might gas out quicker.
He started walking again, and I caught up to him before he stepped off the running path. I guess running at a steady pace is pretty much the same as running faster and walking.
My watch notified me that I reached two kilometers, but I decided to just run until the stairs heading up the road going home.
I think I could have run more, but I didn’t want to push myself too much just yet. On the bright side, I could see that my heart rate was steadily in the aerobic zone throughout this run. Before, I would reach the red zone and my head would feel light. I’ll try to increase the pace slowly.
When I got back home, I asked Che if she wanted me to cook the meat patties I made for lunch or if she prefers eating it for dinner. She opted for a sharing lunch, so I also cooked some veggies for her.
It took a bit long to prep, and I had to rush bringing it to her office so that I’ll be there by lunchtime. After handing off her food, I went to Vivo to find food for myself. I had a lot of time to burn, since I was planning to head straight to Vino after eating.
I thought it would be okay to indulge a little on food, as long as I continue working even if we’re on vacation.
After lunch and a couple of episodes of Daredevil, I went to pick up Vino. He was amused by how his hair stuck out from his hat, and he asked me if he looked like Edong, a character from the Pinoy drama we watched.
We prepared for football training when we got home. I still thought about running since it was going to be an easy track and slow pace, but I didn’t want to tire myself out too much, and I could feel that my body was tired already.
Instead, I watched Vino train and play. While he was playing, he pointed to the moon so that I’d notice it was super full and quite big. I tried to capture it with my phone using some of the tricks I learned watching IG.
This is what I got from it:
Unlike before, Vino is not so upset about conceding goals now. I’m not sure if it’s a lack of competitiveness, or if he was just getting frustrated by teammates complaining before and now they’re no longer as whiny. But I think it’s good that he can dust off conceded goals quicker now.
I think we should practice his balance more. As thin as he is, he easily gets knocked down when running, and he even falls down when he kicks a long ball. I’m also hoping to teach him how to move sideways quicker to help him with blocking.
He will have one more week off school when we return from our holiday, so I hope to teach him how to ride a bike and get some football practice in as well.
