Vino had a league game this day, but it was mostly packing day for Che.
We all slept in this day, as we had a pretty long, but fun day on Saturday. Vino had a scheduled game at 3pm, and we decided that I’ll be the one to go with him as Che needs to pack things up for our upcoming trip on Friday.
I’m pretty useless with packing, because while any idiot can stuff things inside a bag, not everyone could use the space up as efficiently as our “Master Packer” Che. So instead of trying to help her out, the best I do is get out of her way and tend to Vino and other things at home.
It was pretty hot, but luckily, it turned a bit cloudy during the time that Vino had their match.
The team has been doing pretty good. Previously, they were in Division 3, and barely managed to eke out wins to get promoted to Division 2. In Division 2, they were outclassed, but they were really fighting hard out there. The coaches decided to bring them down to Division 3 first, so that their efforts and improvements could be rewarded.
They are now rewarded with incredible wins. Vino has been part of a win and a draw, but hasn’t really been able to attend the previous games because of an injury. This was his first game back and we were looking forward to playing a competitive game.
The first match was a high-scoring affair, with attackers from both teams playing aggressively. Their team scored three points in the first half. Unfortunately, Vino conceded five goals in the same span of time. He was subbed out for the other goalkeeper.
The boys had improved defense this time around, but ultimately, couldn’t overcome a three-goal deficit, as they lost, 5-8.
Vino was not distraught, thank God, as he would be in previous games. He’s getting less emotional now about these conceded goals, which is a good thing, I think.
In the second game, they played even better. They were up 3-0 early, but a furious rally from the other team in the second half made it a bit more competitive. Thankfully, the boys were able to score some goals to pull away even more and they won, 6-3.
On our way home, one of the parents offered to give us a ride. We learned this day that we were practically neighbors. It’s nice, because Vino got to spend more time with a couple of his longtime teammates who he usually play with anyway.
Back home, we thought about going out, but with all the mess from packing, we decided against it. I did have some fish and vegetables ready to go, as well as Che’s favorite salted eggs, so we cooked that.
I made the ensaladang talong, but left Che to deal with the fish. I got galunggong from the market, and thought it would be a nice departure from the usual fish that we ate.
Vino was fine up until this one time where he said a small fishbone got stuck on the upper part of his mouth. For the life of me, I couldn’t be of any help to Vino when he’s in trouble like that. I can’t cut his nails, and I can’t deal with seeing him in pain. So, Che was the one who helped him out, while I offered suggestions on what the could do.
It was a tiring day, and while we went to bed late, it didn’t take Vino too long to fall asleep.
We’re ready for the next week!
