Our weekend became a full day affair of hosting, as we welcomed the Tetangcos to our home.
Apart from being our good friends for quite a while now, Angel and Jeremy are two of the constant five readers of this blog. We’ve always talked about meeting up whenever they’re in town, but the timing never works out for us because we also usually travel when Vino’s on a school break.
This time, we were thankfully free and here, so I insisted that they visit us so that I could finally cook for them.
Angel is also one of a number of parents that ask for recipes when I post food, so I really wanted to pull off some of the house-famous specialties so that she could put a taste to the pictures she sees.
I prepared the marinades the night before to cut down some cooking time, but no matter how easy I think things are going to be, I still end up doing it longer than i imagined.
For this lunch, I cooked the beef salpicao, honey soy garlic chicken, lemon-butter seabass, and stir-fry kailan for veggies.
At least the timing of everything was pretty good, as I just finished the last dish when they arrived. Damien, their daughter, is a few months older than Vino, and they get along really well whenever they see each other. They don’t get a lot of chances, but I’m happy to see them enjoy each other’s company when they do get together.
We let the kids play while the adults talked. I was finally able to open my favorite bottle of tequila. They were a bit hesitant at first, but once they tried it, they too found out what I did – it’s not like the tequilas that we’re used to.
I’ve been cutting back on alcohol, but just for this day, I indulged and enjoyed it with them. We said we didn’t need to finish it, but we eventually did because we were sharing tons of stories.
Lunch turned to dinner and beyond. Che had to subtly tell me to ease off talking because they might get home super late already.
We got to drink well, Che squeezed in a nap, and the kids had a lot of fun playing together and even watching a movie, so I think it was a fulfilling day for everyone.
