We left a lot of work to be done the day before, and we were determined to finish it all this day.
Che wanted to give the house a fresh look free from all the clutter we have built up over the years. I focused on Vino’s toys, which he doesn’t really play much anymore.
We were supposed to have lunch with friends, but Vino woke up in the morning with a bit of a fever and lots of coughing and a runny nose. We begged off from lunch so that Vino would not infect anyone, especially since we would also be meeting Pablo, who was a few years younger than him, and would be vulnerable to infection.
As such, we let Vino stay in the room to rest and relax while we took care of business in the rest of the house.
I stay in the house the most among the three of us, so I’m okay with how it looks. However, this is Che’s safe space, so I wanted her to dictate the look it should have that would make her feel most at ease.
When she shares a vision she has, I would just carry the stuff so that she would see how it actually looks. She got a few cabinets to help organize our stuff, and I built the wooden one that would be our new shoe cabinet.
We had delivery food for sustenance this day, so we could just focus on clearing out the mess. Meanwhile, Vino mostly played with his friends online.
I threw maybe seven huge piles of junk and a pack of old clothes for textile donation. Vino’s friend’s dad asked me why we took a lot of time on Saturday to clean up, noting that he saw how small our house was. I said we efficiently hid a lot of the unnecessary things, and those piles of junk were a testament to that notion.
I can’t believe we had that much things to throw out, but somehow, it’s not really surprising. We hold on to some things way longer than we should sometimes. Only when we stop and think about it like this do we say “this is just taking up space,” and throw it.
By the end of it, our house looked more spacious, at least visually. We didn’t really free up a lot of space, but removing the clutter just made it feel fresh.
Che even made space for the yard where the washer and dryer are. I think next time we do this, we could focus on the bedroom again, as we could review our wardrobe yet again. I think I become too attached to why I have some of the clothes that I have, but in reality, I don’t really use a lot of them.
The kitchen has improved a bit with Che’s moves, but I think I could still clear up space in our pantry.
After a long day of cleaning up, we’re satisfied with the results of our efforts. We watched Mr. Beast with Vino before we asked him to sleep, but this was not a night I wanted to really stay up and watch until late.
