It’s the weekend, and we scheduled a playdate with Vino’s friend, who would be sleeping over at our house.
This would be the second time we’ll be hosting him for a sleepover. I’m still not comfortable letting Vino sleep over somewhere, but it’s a thing for some of his friends. It’s a good experience, I think, so he would also have an idea what to do and how to behave when it’s his turn to sleep over somewhere.
His mom brought him over late in the afternoon, as we planned on watching the new Mario movie with him.
While it’s fun to see Vino watching a movie with a friend, it was a bit tough, as a moviegoer, to watch with two over excited kids. The boys kept talking among themselves a little bit too loudly while the movie was going on.
We got through the movie, though, and we all enjoyed it despite the need to constantly remind them to hush up.
We had some ice cream before heading back home.
The boys played games on their tablet, watched shows, and did a couple of board games.
The difficult thing about hosting kids is that we don’t really know what they need. Vino would be the same, I feel like, because he usually goes with what’s suggested to him.
In the last sleepover, we got the boys in the same room, and in the morning, the boy was honest enough with us by telling us he didn’t sleep so well. This time around, I had to clarify what sleeping arrangements he had at home, so that we could give him a more comfortable stay.
I let them stay up until we watched the latest Brawl Talk show on YouTube. It’s a show from the makers of Brawl Stars that shares updates on the latest changes to the game.
Then, I told Vino he should sleep with us while his friend slept by himself in the extra room. Last time, Che and I slept in the living room so that we could be available for the kids anytime they needed us.
This time around, we let our visitor sleep by himself, hoping he’d be more comfortable at lights out.
Hosting Vino’s friends could be a norm moving forward, so we’ll take this as another lesson in this thing.
One of the biggest things that I should note for future me: no movies in the cinema as an activity.
