Our flight out is scheduled for midnight, so Vino and I had a full day of waiting and preparing for the trip.
During these trips, Che usually does the bulk of the work in packing because she finds a way to optimize all our space. Yes, I can probably learn it, but she will rearrange it anyway, so I’d rather do my part and help her whenever I’m called.
That said, our bags are all packed, with minimal stuff on my end and just having to take care of Vino through the day.
My little man woke up at around 10:30am, and I had to convince him to get a haircut. We have agreed that he would, so we looked at some hairstyles we could show the barber later on.
As a growing boy, he wants to grow his hair long. I totally understand this, having gone through this age. Imagine an era where Patrick Garcia, Leonardo Di Caprio, and Nick Carter were among the idols that young girls cheered for and young boys aspired to be.
Unfortunately, it was also an era when our schools enforced strict rules on hair lengths. Vino’s school is not as strict on hair length, so that’s a plus for him. However, his hair grows like mine – thick, but not really long the way we want it.
As it grows, it just covers his eyes and interferes with his vision. He said he’s not bothered by it and really likes to grow it longer. But it’s a bit messy at times, so we asked if he could just have his haircut for this trip.
Singapore has electronic immigration counters, and last week, he had a bit of trouble passing through because his hair covered his eyes. We used this as an excuse to get him to cut his hair.
Last time I got my hair cut, my guy was somehow able to cut it in a way that it grew much tamer on the sides. I’m not sure how to explain it, but he had a unique way of cutting the sides of my hair, and I feel like it worked. Since Vino’s hair grows like mine, I wanted the guy to cut his hair as well, but as luck would have it, he didn’t have a slot for him.
I decided to bring Vino to Vivo at noon to get it done there, and maybe have lunch with Che.
I had him cleaned on the sides with a fade, as the barbers called it. It was a bit more expensive than the regular cut they do, but I think it was worth it. I know he liked how his hair turned out because he was smirking like he’s hiding his excitement.
I was never really too into fashion growing up, but I like that Vino is stylish in his own way. He likes to choose how he dresses up, and he is very concerned about the way he looks. He also enjoys looking at mirrors and dancing in front of them when he has a chance.
We’d describe him as a shy, reserved boy, but I think he has a quiet self-confidence, and I love that he has it.
We waited a bit for Che to confirm if she can join us for lunch before deciding to have ramen by ourselves. Later, Che said that she was stuck in a meeting and couldn’t really join us even if she wanted to.
We had to go home for a bit because a cleaner was coming, and then we headed over to Orchard for my haircut.
While I loved how the previous cut turned out when my hair grew, I asked my guy for a cleaner cut this time around.
We had a bit of time to burn, so we walked around to see some installations at Orchard Gateway. We also had some snacks.
This is Vino’s favorite strawberry shortcake. I looked down a bit while he ate, and it took him just about 10 minutes to inhale everything.
We went home to wait for Che and headed to the airport around 9:30pm. They had lounge access because Che booked their flights way earlier.
She wanted to use her points to buy my ticket, so she waited a bit before purchasing it. Shockingly, the price for my ticket would be the same as both of theirs combined, so we decided that I’d fly economy while they were up at business. I got my fill at the lounge so that I’d sleep through the flight.
As we were boarding the plane, Vino felt bad that we were going to separate entrances, because it was only then that he realized I won’t be flying in the same class.
While he genuinely felt bad for me, he couldn’t hide his excitement about riding business class.
Che said he availed of everything he could and didn’t really want to sleep so that he could enjoy his place in the plane. However, it was a seven-hour flight and we’d arrive in the morning, so it was best for him to try and get some sleep so we can start the day normally.
As for me, I’m just happy to have an opportunity to fly out and have a vacation with my family. It doesn’t really matter where I sat, because the fact that we could fly is already a privilege. At least there’s in-flight entertainment, and there are movies I haven’t watched yet.
