We had a pretty busy day outside which was a bit uncharacteristic for my homebody housemates. But at some point during our day out, I had the opportunity to teach Vino about one of the most important comforts of a man.
First things first, I was able to wake up early enough to play basketball again. Games are usually played in the afternoon of weekdays, and I usually can’t play then because I have to pick Vino up from school and prepare dinner for everyone.
My best time would now be on Saturday mornings. Both Che and Vino usually don’t get up until 8:30am at the earliest, while the basketball games start around 7am. I thought I was already late when I got up at 7:30am, but I was told that I could still play so I set off and reached just before 8am.
I was just in time to play the next game. Our team was pretty well-balanced, but we need about four tries to get a basket while the other team just scores easily within 10 seconds. We got beaten, 40-21, I think.
In the next game, we played with the same five guys, all determined to get a win. This time around, our shots were falling. Since getting my Steph Curry shoes, I’ve only been able to hit one three-pointer a game, no matter how good of a look I get. I broke the curse this game by hitting four three pointers in the second game, whiile one of my teammates hit three of his own.
We easilty won that game before everyone decided to end the session. I went home to see Che and Vino having breakfast already. Che planned to have lunch at this place that she ate with her officemates, Osteria Mozza.
I found it sometime before while checking out the best pizzerias in Singapore, so I was interested to try it as well.
As we were studying the menu, Che admitted that she may have made a mistake – it was her first time thre. They ate at a different Osteria. Still, this one was pretty good.
We had two pizzas and some antipasti. It was pretty good, but I can’t say it’s the best I’ve ever had. Flavors are nice, the burrata with parma ham was a good sized portion. For the price, I think we’d be able to get the same quality elsewhere for maybe half the price.
After lunch, we walked over to a Somerset because Che wanted to check something out. I took Vino along with me for a lesson I hope he’d bring when he grows up.
I’ve been with Che for 20 years now, and if life with her has taught me anything, it’s that my opinion only counts at around 20% in terms of her style preference. Of course, over the years, my tastes have improved or has aligned with hers for the most part. I know what she would like, but I’m still not confident to get her something by myself.
She’s always loved shopping, whether she ends up buying something or not doesn’t really matter. But given this, we have spent plenty of time in malls and shops and I have come to discover “The Boyfriend Corner.”
There’s always a place in a shop where a boyfriend or a husband just sits by himself playing on his phone or something. I’ve had small talk with a bunch of people over the years. Sometimes, we just share a quiet nod or smile to acknowledge the fact that our partners are probably going to take a while and we might be breathing the same air for the next few minutes.
Not all shops have a comfy corner, but there’s always a corner. For 313 Somerset, Love Bonito on the third floor fully embraced this concept and sponsored wraps on the three benches outside their shop.
It’s important that Vino knows this for his mom or for a future girlfriend. Patience is very important for guys because selecting the right piece of clothing takes a lot of time for women.
Che decided to get the rest of her hunted clothing pieces in MBS because she has earned a lot of points already, and she probably won’t even have to pay for her choices if she bought her things in MBS.
To appease Vino for being a sport through this outside adventure, we had a snack at Ippudo. We wanted to get him a pair of shoes as well, so we checked out Fila at the upper floor.
Che was not amused by his choice of shoes, and I couldn’t help but laugh because I probably would choose the same. He picked the shoues with purple highlights, and he was determined to get that pair.
We saw some winter clothes as well, so we had him check it out. He was happy with his “drip” and was modeling it around the shop. He insisted on getting it, but getting the whole set and the shoes would be pretty expensive.
All I could tell Che was that we’re lucky that it’s only her and Vino who are very much interested in high fashion because if I was too, we probably won’t be able to eat as well as we do.
We had another snack before we went back to Orchard to check out a couple of shirts for friends. The brand was on sale, so they wanted to take advantage of the opportunity, especially since we were heading back to the PH next week.
After we got that errand done, we finally headed home, much to Vino’s delight.
We used up the batteries of all our gadgets and exhausted two of our powerbanks, but we finally made it to our very own corner of Singapore.
