The Road to 40 Day 133/365: Mystery Solving Friday

We had a voucher for the escape room adventure that expires on Saturday, so we decided to use it today.

Che was working from home this day, so I decided to make breakfast for all of us. I made some longganisa the day before, so I cooked some of those for us. I had some sausage for Vino’s lunch, and I cooked Korean steamed eggs.

Vino likes to order this when we go to Korean barbecues, so I tried to recreate it at home. I haven’t perfected it yet though, I guess I need more practice to make it similar to what we enjoy.

When I got home, Che was working already, and I rested a bit. She requested to just have kimchi jiggae for lunch, which I obliged. It’s her comfort food, and it was just the two of us, so it was just fitting for the time.

She had work until 5pm, so it was only Vino and I who were going to play in the escape room. Vino spent his birthday there and he essentially had a free pass but it was going to expire if we didn’t use it.

So far, he’s done two of the four packages, so I booked the hardest two in their selection.

While we were on the way, Che asked about an ingredient we wanted to use for kare-kare. Since Vino and I took the bus, we were in Lucky Plaza at the time and we could stop by and buy the ingredient.

He said he was hungry and he said he smelled ramen somewhere. I told him to follow his nose and try to find it.

We ended up on the basement level, where we didn’t find ramen, but he found Shakey’s.

We got a pizza for our snack before we resumed our journey on a bus. We reached the place at just the right time for our session to start.

Vino enjoys puzzles, even if he gets frustrated with it sometimes. He’s always been excited about escape rooms, because it feels like a real-life obby (obstacle course, in Roblox).

Of course, escape rooms can be hard, even for adults. So when I found Kids In The Room in Marina Square, I got excited at the possibility of him trying it.

Che, Vino, and I did the first two puzzles together. On his birthday, he did a couple more with friends. Now, it was just me and him.

I tried to make him do most of the work, helping him with the locks if he couldn’t open them properly. I also guided him through some of the more difficult ones, but I tried to make sure that it was him who figured things out.

He’s at a great age where he could understand how a lot of the things work, but not everything just yet. So it was enjoyable to figure things out together.
In the end, we were able to finish both with time to spare. The staff was even surprised that we finished the second one with a lot more time left.

We got some takeout food for dinner and watched some movies while we ate. Che tried to watch Elio, but her eyes failed her already.

We turned in for the night and got ready for a brand new day tomorrow.
