With no plans set for the day, I took it upon myself to drag a friend out to visit us.
Che was going to work from home, and it looked like she had gotten a bit worse from the day before. You could tell by the way she speaks that her nose was clogged and her voice was a bit deeper because of sore throat.
I can’t possibly ask her to take a break. The night before, I was a bit frustrated that I can’t finish a story without her grabbing onto her work phone even after work hours.
The other day when her sisters came to visit, we were talking about love langauges. I was kind of surprised that she shared her irritation with me for always being on my phone. It’s almost like a pot calling a kettle black.
She says she hates that I don’t message her when I’m out with people but I stay on my phone when we’re together. Fact of the matter is that I go on my phone because she is on her phone, and when she’s done, she’d see me looking at my phone and calls me out on it.
Meanwhile, I put down my phone when I’m out with people because we are usually engaged in conversation. She would know this if she observes me when we’re out together with friends.
I understand that our phone usage is of varying degrees – even if both are for work, of course, hers would be more important than mine. That said, I don’t call her out on it especially if I know it may be about work, which is easy to determine because she has a work phone.
Despite Che feeling sick, I know that she’d be working like she always does, and she did start off the day early and got to her space.
Understanding her current state of health and her penchant for continuing to work beyond work hours, I asked if Shara could come over so that she’d be forced to entertain a guest instead of burying herself in work.
Thankfully, she was in the office, and I did promise to cook her a dish while we’re here and her office is just right across our hotel.
We had bread for breakfast, which is light enough for Vino’s 11am food and I ordered Chinese food for lunch at around 1pm. Vino and I played while Che was working, and by late afternoon, I went off to go to the supermarket for some ingredients I needed for dinner.
I prepared Pork Shogayaki or Japanese ginger pork, as promised to Shara before we arrived in the PH, kimchi jiggae, for the sick Che, and some shredded cabbage on the side for some veggies.
Shara arrived before I could finish preparing the things, and Che was still working a bit, but she was trying to finish it quickly. Honestly, Che wasn’t too thrilled about entertaining a guest because she feared infecting her, but I briefed Shara about it at least and as I mentioned, it was more than just having a guest around.
At least for a couple of hours, she could take her mind off work or rant about it with someone other than me or officemates and understands the industry.
I don’t know if it was enough to help her out, but if I were in her place, I know it would kind carry some load off me.
She prepared to go to bed almost immedaitely after Shara left. Meanwhile, Vino asked me to play 99 Nights in the Forest with me again as has been our habit over the past week or so.
Maybe we’ve been playing it too much that we’re doing kinda great now. We have a solid strategy of not building the map too quickly, crafting essential items only, and only attacking when needed.
For those who do play, you’d probably understand that we were super excited about what we did. He had thorn armor while I had alien armor. He got a chainsaw and I got the strong axe We both had all the guns, including the alien’s ray gun. We built crafting bench 5 and an oil rig. We cleared a cultist stronghold as well as the alien mothership.
We were at Day 235 at 2:30am and we could have kept going if the internet hadn’t failed us.
It’s probably bad parenting to keep my kid up this late, but again, vacation, and we were having fun with it.
I guess the day is going to start late again tomorrow.
