The Pacers smoothly won Game 6 in the morning, and it felt like nothing could go wrong for the rest of the day.
I wore my Coke + Uniqlo shirt for no reason this day, and it somehow led to a former colleague of Che tapping me on the shoulder to talk.
She confirmed that I was Che’s husband and apparently the shirt gave her an idea that I might be. She had two kids – a girl who’s the same age as Vino, and a boy who’s a year older.
She was picking up her daughter from school and we got around to talking about the kids. With our kids going to Year 4, we are going to have to deal with them having a gadget in school.
It wasn’t that much of a deal since Vino is used to his tablet at home. But we we talked about the realities of having it being an even bigger part of their lives now that it’s going to be part of school.
We talked about values and what the kids learn from their friends. I shared with her the toothbrush episode I had with Vino and she said her son is the same. She said her son is very convincing at times as well that she doesn’t even know what’s true and what’s not.
I’m almost scared now of what these kids learn from their friends or what they watch, because I’m sure I never taught Vino how to lie to someone’s face. Seeing that it’s not an isolated case, I am driven now to be more vigilant about Vino’s small habits and maybe to some extent, who he hangs out with.
Later, we met up with friends to visit Gastrobeats. It was an event happening near Marina Bay Sands with bands and a lot of food trucks.
However, the older people in us saw the lines going in and decided we wanted no part of it. Instead, we went to the Shoppes to get dinner somewhere not crowded.
Some food and some wine got us through the dinner part, but of course we were still interested to see what was up in Gastrobeats.
There was a bit of a queue, but it was not bad. We went in and checked out some activities. Vino and Pablo played a giant beer pong.
It was nice, but at some point, I felt like the people there were my kids already. Which is why it’s a bit baffling that the music the band was playing seemed to be from the 90s to early 2000s. They’re “classics” at this point.
The lines for the food we wanted to try were a bit long, so it helped that we weren’t really that hungry. We had expensive mango sticky rice and headed to the exits.
While devouring the dessert, we were looking at a distance to some light exhibitions from I-Light, which is actually an event connected to Gastrobeats. They are outdoor light installations that has a museum feel to it.
It was quite a walk, but we powered through to see those that looked interesting.
We’re never really good at goodbyes, but everyone was tired, so it was a bit of a rushed parting of ways.
Next day is gonna be a busy one for Vino, so getting home late was not gonna help Che’s fatigue level.
But that’s a tomorrow problem. At least for tonight, we had a bit of fun and catch up with good friends.
