We had a full day ahead of us that was going to start early because of a scheduled haircut.

Vino’s hair has been growing long, and while it does look messy already, I was supporting his choice of growing it longer. When I was younger, I also wanted to grow my hair long, but school regulations prevented me from doing so. Since their school is not strict about these things, I let him do what he wanted with it.

However, I feel like it’s getting too unruly and is already interfering with daily life because it has been covering his eyes already. I playfully proposed I’d sponsor his Brawl Pass (a paid tier of one of his games) if he got a haircut, and he easily agreed. So now, I have to make good on my word if he does on his.

I had my haircut the other day, and we decided to schedule Vino’s for this Saturday. Unfortunately, my stylist’s only open slot was at 9am, so we had to move early.

I assured him that we won’t cut his hair super short, so we checked out some hairstyles that he would be okay with. During the process, I noticed he looked a bit sad and had a pre-cry face. He shot me down though, saying he was fine.

After the cut, he was asked to wash his hair. When he came back, he was smiling in a way that he does when he’s trying to contain his excitement. I guess he was really happy with how it turned out, and he said he was thankful to be able to feel his ears again.

It was still early and Che had an appointment until 12nn, so I decided to go on a quick brunch date with Vino. We looked for a cafe, but didn’t have to walk too far to get to Cafe Wabe Sabi, which I saw the last time I walked around the area.

As the name implied, it was a Japanese-themed restaurant. We split a hamburg sando and had dessert.

We took the bus to meet up with Che in the CBD. We planned on going to the National Museum to learn more about Singapore. We’ve been to the National Gallery a few times, but I realized this was our first time here in the National Museum.

Singapore, as a country, is celebrating its 61st year of independence this year, but I learned that it has been an important part of trade for centuries. It’s cool to see old maps charting Singapore.

After our museum visit, we had a bit of coffee to cool down before getting on a cab to go home. While on the way, Lia told Che that we should celebrate my upcoming birthday, especially since she was heading back to the Philippines next week.

We decided to meet up at a Mexican restaurant that Che and her friends tried last weekend. It was really good food, and I enjoyed it a lot. I love Mexican food, but Vino doesn’t really have a go-to, and Che doesn’t enjoy it as much as I do. So it did feel like a dinner party for me.

We had some cocktails apart from the awesome food, and since the GM of the place was Che’s former volleyball teammate, she sent over an appetizer. Before we left, they also sent over a dessert with a candle.

The cocktails were a bit expensive, so we decided to continue drinking at home. However, I asked if we could drop by the eldest Cabusora sibling’s house so that we could say hi to the family as well.

With one call, I suddenly invited us over to their home.

Kuya Alf was gracious with his alcohol, because even last time we were there, he said he doesn’t drink by himself, so the alcohol stock just grows. We opened a good whiskey and talked the night away.

We felt welcomed and comfortable at their place, pretty much how we were welcomed by their parents into their home when we were younger. We were having so much fun, I didn’t realize we were able to finish the whole bottle.

It’s just the second day of my birthday month, but I’ve had back-to-back celebrations already. I’ve been asked about what my plans were for my 40th, but I truly don’t have a big one, apart from this blog series.

However, fun times like these in pockets with people I’m grateful to have in my life feel better than one huge celebration with everyone.

If this is a preview of what’s to come when I hit 40, then there’s so much to look forward to after hitting that milestone.
