Vino is entering a new phase in his childhood life, as he has taken interest in watching One Piece.
Being exposed to games, random YouTube clips, and friends who have varied interests, he gets curious about certain things. Previously, he watched Stranger Things, a series I never really got into. I enjoyed it with him – I had to, because it’s not technically for kids despite starring kids.
This time around, he picked up One Piece from somewhere. It’s a series that I’ve wanted to get into since my college days, but by then, it had so many episodes and not a lot of sources except pirate streams and DVDs.
Even as it became available on Netflix, I didn’t feel like I’d have the patience to start watching it. However, since Vino started it, I could watch glimpses of it or sit down and watch it with him.
It’s one of the perks that I’ve looked forward to being a boy dad. When he was younger, I’d watch what he watches, so I memorized quite a bit of the new nursery ryhmes.
As he grows older, his tastes are also changing. He chooses darker shades of colors for his clothes, and has a certain style he likes to rock. It’s a style that I would like to wear, but my body type refuses.
He also now plays games that I actually enjoy playing. I can’t play all his games, though, as there are still some that I just can’t get myself to be interested in.
Now, he’s enjoying shows that I can get behind. It’s so far off from the days when I had to force myself to like things because he likes them – he’s now at an age where his interests are developing closer to mine.
I like that we can enjoy things together and talk about it as I would talk to my friends. We’re speculating on things, and even making our own hypothetical scenarios from time to time. It gives us something to talk about outside the daily things that we do.
I’ve been working a lot on getting healthier, because I want to enjoy more years sharing his interests and watching him grow into his own. It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed a nice full meal featuring red meats, but I think the rewards far outweigh the sacrifices.
