It’s Vino’s second day of recovering at home, and he decided to take the PS5 as his. I didn’t get to play much, but I’m somewhat happy that at least Vino is enjoying the console as well.
I have always loved playing games on the console, but I usually immerse myself on the NBA 2K series. My mom got us the Playstation when we were younger, but we never bothered getting a PS2.
Che gifted me a PS3 in one of our anniversaries. It was the year when I gave her a Mickey Mouse-shaped MP3 player, which I thought was sweet because she loved Mickey. However, she outdid me by giving a PS3. It became my companion when we weren’t on dates.
For our wedding, she got me a PS4, which meant the PS3 could be passed on to my brother, who brought it to Australia with him. The new console was my companion when I was alone at home while they were all at work.
When the PS5 was released, it had super limited supply, because of a shortage of materials used to make the chips that made it run. They were selling it for insane prices, but Che gave her blessing for me to buy one. I decided against it, saying the prices would soon normalize.
Once it did, we bought one. I was a dad by then, and I’ve always wanted Vino to try and play it. I downloaded kiddy games, but he couldn’t play well because the controller was much too big for his hands.
Eventually, he started playing FC24 – the EA Sports football game that apparently lost the right to be called FIFA. From playing with an easy difficulty, he now plays really well and could give me a challenge now.
He’s tried basketball, but he doesn’t understand the game yet, so it’s difficult for him.
For a long time though, the PS5 has become an expensive paperweight. I didn’t really have time to play it, and Vino would rather play on his tablet.
I got myself a Playstation Portal, hoping I could play more, but there is a slight lag that makes it difficult to play NBA. So I tried to look for a good RPG so I could utilize the gadget.
Luckily, Spiderman 2 came free last month, so I was able to download it. It’s a familiar character, so Vino was also interested to play it.
This day, he saw me playing and asked to play on his profile. He played for about four hours, and advanced through the story quicker than me. Of course, he didn’t do the side quests like I did, so my character’s at a much higher level despite not being that far off in the story.
There are times he’d ask for my help, and I would try to get him through. However, as he went on, I decided not to help him anymore. He’s improving well with every try, and he doesn’t get frustrated when he loses. Well, he does, but he doesn’t cry about it.
It’s nice to see him enjoy games as much as I did, and I hope he takes more interest in these kinds of games that sometimes challenge his problem-solving skills and strategy-making instead of some nonsensical Roblox games.
Watching him play and figure the game out makes me feel even more like a boy-dad.
