For the first day of the two-day public holiday, we hosted our first sleepover.
Vino and his friends have always planned on going on sleepovers, but that hasn’t happened yet.
Personally, my first sleepover was when I was in 3rd year of high school, and that was because we had to finish a school project. I did sleepovers with my cousins when I was younger, but obviously, that’s family.
Needless to say, this concept is very alien to me, but we are happy to host kids. It just makes me feel a bit guilty because I feel like I should be comfortable letting Vino sleep over elsewhere if I am willing to host other kids at my home. Still, I maintain that I want to be in control of situations, and I’m not really sure how good a houseguest Vino is.
Vino and his friend were very adamant that the sleepover is locked in already, but the kid’s parents haven’t replied to me at all. On Monday, I got a message, and we agreed that his friend would come over on Tuesday.
We understand that kids can be picky eaters, so Che prepared lasagna for them for lunch while I made homemade burgers for them for dinner. For activities, the kids played on their tablets, but thankfully, they decided among themselves to play toys as well.
They played with the Nerf guns, messed a bit with the science experiments kit, utilized the Hot Wheels tracks left, got in a couple of games on PS5, and even had a bit of fun with the bean bag.
Later, Che baked some cookies and asked for their help to make them.
After dinner, we played a couple of board games. The parents said the kid sleeps around 8 or 9pm, so we tried to do lights out as early as possible. Since this was our first time hosting, and we’re not sure if the kid is really comfortable moving around, we decided to let Vino sleep with him in the room while Che and I slept on the sofa, which was right beside the room the kids slept in.
The day was kinda loaded despite us not really leaving, so we weren’t able to finish the last four episodes of Can This Love Be Translated.
It was a good experience having a relatively unknown kid, but I’m happy that his parents trusted us to take care of their kid. They are a lovely couple as well, and they have taken care of Vino for extended periods of time in a day, so I guess the trust is mutual.
I think I could have done more with them if it didn’t rain, but I’m happy that they were enjoying the time together by themselves.
I’m not sure if this opens up the possibility of Vino sleeping over with other friends or other friends coming over here, but I feel like I would still prefer the latter if it is inevitable. While I say Vino is a very easy kid, I feel like he has elevated levels of what “normal” is just because of what we are able to do for him.
It’s a future “me” problem, so I’ll let him deal with it then.
