Che and I have spent a lot of Valentine’s Days together, and at this point, we do what we can to make it a bit special.
James connected with me a couple of weeks back asking what I wanted to do for this day, and I told him I was thinking of doing a home-cooked meal. Over the years of learning how to cook, making meals for Che has been one of my ways of showing my love for her.
But personally, even before we were living together, I feel like we always have a lot of love to give. We’ve spent it with single friends and couple friends whenever we had the chance, so I thought it would be a nice family thing this year with James and Steph.
It’s Steph’s first Valentine’s Day as a married woman, and I was honored that James considered spending it with us.
The day before, though, Che thought we could have a date with Vino for Valentine’s. When they played a game together, they apparently agreed that the winner would decide where to go for Valentine’s. Vino won, and he had a clear choice – “the steak place in MBS.”
We celebrated our anniversary last year at Wakuda in Marina Bay Sands. During that time, there was a special Wagyu steak that was quite expensive, but we thought “hey, we’re celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, we should enjoy it.” It arrived as a steak cut into eight cubes. Che got one, I got one, and Vino got the rest. He wanted more, but we said it’s too expensive to order again.
I guess it really made an impression on him, because he specifically asked for it again. It wasn’t on the menu, but the server knew what we were talking about and brought it for us.
This time around, he had the whole serving to himself.
After our lunch, we walked around MBS. We thought about going home because I scheduled a painting session for Vino at 5:30pm. However, I thought it would be best to hang around one of our go-to places in Singapore for a while.
At some point, she wanted to reschedule the painting session, but I insisted that we should just go with it. I told Vino about the plan a couple of days back, so even if he did want to cancel the session, he knew we needed to be there to make it work.
It was a bit tiring, but we were able to get some snacks and coffee along the way, which I hoped would be enough to last us for dinner, which James reserved for 8:30pm.
Vino and I did the painting session of the vase he made a few months back while Che went around the mall. By the time she was done, she was already hungry, but we still had the session.
Steph and James arrived not long after and we were able to do our session and dinner later on.
It wasn’t the smoothest, maybe because Che, Steph, and Vino were really hungry by the time we were done with the painting. It didn’t help that our initial server put us in a less than ideal table when we arrived at the restaurant. The other servers were lovely, though, and more than made up for that debacle.
Overall, I’m happy with how we spent the day. We were able to spend some family time with the three of us, and we did some activities with our practice daughter and her hubby.
