The great thing about not having plans is that the plans just happen.
Since it was a Monday, the adults had adult duties and were supposed to face the start of the new week before the holidays.
It’s admirable, what they try to do for their families and their jobs, especially since most of us slept well past midnight already.
However, father time is undefeated for a reason – our bodies cannot do what it could when it was in its 20s.
I woke up at 10:30am – a disappointing outcome, personally, as I have always claimed to be part of the morning people team. When I got up, morning people fixture Arianne was already at the balcony with Che, who was a surprise member of this crew because she had a meeting.
The others were apparently awake downstairs, but we were having a good chat already, so I decided to stay. Over the course of our talk, I saw the treadmill and decided to go for a walk while we talked. Someone told me that I could walk outside, but I retorted that I usually walk alone anyway, so having someone to talk to while walking was a good change.
We went down to eat lunch so that we can all get ready to go. During this time, the adults started to reconsider leaving.
“Isang gabi pa kaya?”
It was a game of chicken nobody wanted to lose. Once it was decided, the alcohol was out again.
The kids were happy, but of course, the adults were just as excited. We started planning what to cook for dinner. Lia requested more of the salpicao, and she asked me to use the steaks to make it. Meanwhile, Christian was asked to make pastil, which took a lot of work to make.
Che, who just finished her meeting and just learned about the collective decision to stay one more night, took the responsibility of cooking the tinola.
Meanwhile, the kids were playing in the game room for most of the stay.
Vino was actually playing NBA2K, because Neo and Caeleb were playing it. He doesn’t really know about players, except maybe for LeBron James, because of a meme. Still, he’s able to move and score, so that’s a win.
Of course, I’m not taking this to mean that he’s getting more interested in basketball, but I keep insisting to him that knowing how to play multiple sports can only do more good than bad.
We had tequila the night before, and most of us were still reeling from the effects of the alcohol, so it was a calmer session this time around. Tian and I had the whiskey, the girls had wine, Nicky and Kali had beer.
As I was cooking, there was apparently an agreement in the dining area that a Japan trip was going to be booked. We spent most of the night looking for flights and accommodations.
Everyone was tired, even Tokyo.
We cleaned up the last remaining bits of things that Lia and Carla haven’t cleaned yet because of us and moved up to the game room. The adults decided to re-live our college days by taking over the game room and playing 2K.
I was able to beat Kali and Neo before they went to their room. Vino asked if we could still play, so I had a game with him.
We were the last people to go in to sleep, and since I was already falling asleep while Vino and I played, it didn’t take long for me to get knocked out. I think it was well worth blowing off work for the day, as it will be the last time we’ll all see each other this year.
