We’re on a Sunday slowdown with the two homebodies.
I woke up fairly early, but there was no basketball happening, so I lounged on the sofa to doomscroll. Che surprisingly got up early as well, and we proceeded to find something to watch.
We still haven’t finished our K-Drama, Nice Guy, but the story’s getting too slow for us. She started this Chinese drama that she’s a bit invested in, so I watched it with her.
Vino woke up not long after, and we decided to order in for breakfast.
This is our typical Sunday when we don’t have plans. Che doesn’t really have the energy to go out and socialize after a busy work week. Meanwhile, Vino just prefers to stay and talk to his friends online.
Personally, I’d like for us to be moving around and exploring, but I don’t mind just staying in and being together in a single space.
We planned on going to church late in the afternoon, and when we do, we would usually eat out. However, our friend shared a photo of the food he was preparing, and Che wanted the same. We decided to have groceries delivered so we can prep it for dinner.
Che put the ingredients in a pressure cooker and turned off the stove as we left for church.
In church, Vino was very lethargic and fell asleep during the readings. This ticked me off a bit because he had all the time to sleep earlier, but he chose to play with his friends, and he chose to sleep in the one hour that we were in church.
I feel like I’m sounding like my dad in trying to get Vino to listen to the mass, so I’m trying to calm myself down. I firmly believe that faith is not something that is forced on someone. But I also think that Vino is not grounded in faith as much as I was at his age.
Both Che and I were raised in Catholic schools, as most Filipino kids are. As such, I am very familar with the structure of the mass and the responses, because it’s all taught in school. For Vino, he doesn’t have subjects on religion, so it would be up to us to teach him.
Much like we didn’t force him to learn Tagalog, I don’t like to force faith in him, or else it will be something he’d be trapped in instead of something he could find solace in. I teach him what I know when he asks, because he retains the information that he is curious about.
He woke up after the homily and slowly participated in the mass. We walked over to the mall across the church and ended up getting a carpet. We actually looked for something for Vino’s room, but ended up getting one for the living room. We’re suckers for good deals.
We got home for the finishing touches of the dish we craved for tonight – nilagang baka.
There are probably better cuts of meat in the Philippines, but we’re able to recreate the flavors with what we have here.
With cravings satisfied and our taste buds happy, we retreated to the room to get ready to sleep. We’re binging on Squid Games: The Challenge, as it’s something all of us can watch.
Che found some Christmas lights and she looked for a good place to put it on, and she decided to put near the TV area, which I think works well.
We don’t have a lot of Christmas decorations, and frankly, we don’t have much space to put them in. So any little thing like this helps make our home feel more Christmas-y.
Not a lot of activities today, but plenty of cuddles, so it’s still a win.
