Saturday became sports day!

On Friday night, I told Che that if I woke up early without setting an alarm, I’d go and play basketball with the guys.

I got up at 7:45AM and packed my stuff for the game, got ready to go out and actually headed out. But I was told that the guys were on their last game and I might not be able to play.

So I went back home to sweat it out on the treadmill, with a basketball game in the background.

We got this thing mainly for Che, because she doesn’t have a lot of time to squeeze in some exercise, despite her knowing that she needs it and genuinely wanting to do it. So far, she has used this less than five times, and almost the same number of times as I have.

I feel that it’s nice because it lets me run at a certain pace and I’m comfortably at home, but sometimes, I want to experience it outside.

I get tired easily, and walking takes a toll on me. But on a treadmill, I can run for at least 20 minutes non-stop, which I don’t think I’ll be able to do on actual roads just yet.

Maybe I’ll try next week.

Vino had his dentist appointment today, his first in six months.

His dentist here in SG saw him maybe two years ago, and while she has seen the records, she’s still surprised by Vino’s growth and his teeth development. He’s a lot taller than his last visit, and he lost at least four wobbly teeth since then.

As big as his two front teeth are they apparently are not fully out yet and could still straighten up later when his other teeth come out.

A big thing is that he has decay on a couple of his teeth. He was told to lay low on the sweets and the fruit juices. Last time the dentist told him that, he really cut down on fruits and juices but he eventually got back to it. He’s a kid, after all.

When I was younger, I would go with my mom when she went grocery shopping so that I could ask for things I’d like to eat. If I were allowed to get candies, I would get my fair share as well.

Vino got a couple of fillings, and we were advised to keep his mouth in check. He tends to breathe through his mouth at times, and the tendency is that his two front teeth are resting on his bottom lip, which could push his teeth outward.

There’s no mouthguard or anything for him to use, just a lot more self-awareness.

While we were waiting for a ride home, I saw my basketball group was active. One of my OG friends tagged me and asked me to play the afternoon session. Since we didn’t have anything planned out for the afternoon, I decided to join them.

I didn’t get the bus timing right, so I was a bit late when I got there – I was the 11th guy to arrive, which meant I had to wait my turn.

Did some shooting drills while the others played, then one of the guys sat out the next game so I could play.

I am almost certain now that the Steph Curry shoes only allows me to make one shot in a game. I hit my second three-point attempt in the game and was constantly given open looks, but I couldn’t hit anything.

Anyway, I play for the fun of it, win or lose, so that didn’t really matter. We did win though.

After the game, the guys asked if we could go for post-game drinks. It’s kinda the norm for afternoon games. It’s a chance to know the guys apart from all the laughs on the court.

Funny that while I was contemplating the day before, the guys actually would do the same thing I would. We were talking about a different friend who was in a similar situation, and it’s good to know that I’m not alone in the mindset I had in my own situation.

I had to cut my stay short though, as I had to do an interview at 8PM.

Reached home with a few minutes to spare, but my guy flaked and would not have any notification for the whole hour I was on the call.

Experiences like these are not new, and it’s never fun. The tradeoff is the fun and the stories I get for when it actually happens. Hopefully, we get that sorted out and get his stories about him out soon.

 It will get done somehow.
