We have a six-month pass to Universal Studios since October and we haven’t been to it once, so I decided today was the day we’ll go and see the newly-opened Minion Land.
Since Vino has goalkeeper training on Mondays, he doesn’t have sessions on Fridays. I thought it would be good to visit USS after school especially since he doesn’t have a lot of things to carry around.
In school, it was a day where kids were to dress up in national costumes and they could bring things of cultural significance. It could also be something of a family heirloom or if we have a unique custom for our family, which we do not.
Instead, I asked him to bring a Hot Wheels car that was inspired by a Philippine jeepney. I wrote a whole script on his tablet so he can read it to class.
It was also going to be the last time that he wears his barong. It’s been a reliable partner for the past three years, but his arms are already longer than the sleeves.
Che was working from home, so I went back home after I dropped Vino off in school. I wanted to be more productive, but I failed on that end. At least I was able to cook her lunch and clean up all the plates.
She had dinner later on, so she wasn’t going to be with us when we went to USS. I did report what we were doing so that she’s in the loop.
Minion Land opened this year, so we got season passes when we learned that USS offered it again. We feel it’s great for locals, because going about two times would be good value for money already.
I didn’t realize that the park was going to be closed by 5pm because of Halloween events. It was 4pm by the time we got in, so I told Vino that we could eat after instead of when we go in because we might not be able to get to the attractions.
We only got on one ride, the Minion Meyhem. It’s a 4D ride, similar to the Shrek ride, but a little more roller-coaster-y. It took about 30 minutes for us to get into the ride. Midway through, the show was stopped because a small girl got shaken and wanted to sit on her mom’s lap, which the ride did not allow.
It’s dumb because there were stationary seats for kids like her, yet the parents did not consider doing that and had to inconvenience the whole batch.
We started from the start though, so it was fine. When we got out, I went to buy him banana-flavored popcorn. Yeah, it’s kinda weird, but it also made sense because minions. And he liked it, so that’s what matters.
We also had a picture with his favorite villain, El Macho.
There’s a character in Brawl Stars that he keeps associating with him, and he did really find him funny when he watched Despicable Me 2.
The other two rides were a merry go round and a balloon ride that just spun and moved up and down. Vino was really hungry, but the restaurant was only offering takeaway. He said he didn’t want to eat the food if we couldn’t eat it there.
So I decided we should go back to Vivo for him to try A&W.
Vino likes hotdog sandwiches, and so far, Jolly Hotdog is at the top of his list for accessible hotdogs. The top spot still goes to Pink’s in BGC, though.
He didn’t like the rootbeer float, but he’s ok with the hotdog.
After eating, he wanted to go home, but I told him there’s nothing to do at home anyway, so maybe we can check out things.
I love window shopping for gadgets. I have a good fail-safe method on not ending up buying things – I don’t keep a lot of money in my account.
No matter the temptation, I won’t buy anything. Besides, I don’t need anything right now, so I’m just admiring the new gadgets. The fold phones are getting better.
We ended up in Timezone, where we played a few bowling games.
Before we left, I saw a claw machine with minions, so I tried to get one to cap off our minion day. Unfortunately, my claw machine magic appears to have worn off, so we ended up not getting anything.
We went home and played 99 Nights in the Forest. Around 10:30pm, I saw that Che was calling. She asked if we could bring the tequila and some things over to her officemate’s place nearby because the Filipinos were going for a nightcap.
I brought pancit canton because Vino was hungry, but I figured I’d bring all the packs we have because no one can resist the smell of pancit canton.
I was right. At least we had a snack and Vino got to eat. They talked about work, so I was just taking it all in so that I can keep up with what’s going on with Che.
Vino fell asleep while playing, so I put him on the bed. We continued drinking and talking before calling it a night. They all lived in the same condominium, so it was only us who needed to get a cab.
It turned out to be a busy day and night, and I just hope that both Che and Vino had fun to close out their week.
