Like any post-fiesta day, this day was expected to be slow. I took it as a chance to get back to playing basketball.
Vino got up a bit early despite sleeping late the night before. Of course, when he got up, I needed to get up as well to prep his breakfast. Che had brunch scheduled for 11am, so I let her sleep in a bit.
The sky was a bit gloomy, and it didn’t take long for rain to fall hard. Che’s friends decided to cancel their brunch, which gave her more time to sleep in.
Vino was talking to his friends via Facetime, but when his friends were all busy, I guess he realized it got a bit too quiet at home. He went into the room and decided to join the cuddle party in the morning.
I then went on to face the challenge of the kitchen from the night’s festivities.
I’ve talked to friends who have suggested that we get a dishwasher, but we literally don’t have space for it. I’m almost sold on the idea of getting one, but we just can’t have one for our current kitchen setup.
We love hosting friends, but cleaning the dishes after a party is really a tough challenge, especially considering all the utensils I need when cooking multiple dishes.
I know that it took me close to an hour clearing the dirty dishes because our rice cooker finishes at 45 minutes, and I just finishing up when it got done.
We had leftover kaldereta for lunch, which was still a lot. Later, we lounged on the sofa, with Vino playing and Che and I watching the PH version of It’s Okay To Not Be Okay.
It looked like we didn’t have plans in the afternoon, and I saw that my basketball group had enough players for an afternoon session.
I told Che that I was going out first while they rested. I reached the court as the sixth player for the second game, as the first game was already going on.
It was my first game in a long time, so I didn’t want to push too hard. I’ve been shooting baskets during Vino’s training days, and I feel like I have a bit of a rhythm going despite the long layoff.
I couldn’t time blocks properly as I did before, and I couldn’t move as quick as I’d like laterally on defense. Still, I did get rebounds and was able to bother some shots to help my team win.
However, I feel like my Steph Curry shoes has a one-three-pointer curse. Since getting these shoes, I’ve only hit one three-pointer per game. I’ve had good looks, but somehow, after I hit one, I am not able to hit another. It’s always close, but doesn’t quite go in.
I was able to play in another game, but we had to stop it at some point because the rain was getting harder and the floor was getting more slippery. It’s been a while since I hung out with the guys, so I went for post-game drinks with them for a bit.
Most of the guys I play with are close to my age or a bit older than me, so our post-game talk consisted of how we manage knee or back pain, and how people around us are getting affected by illnesses and injuries.
We were having fun with the talks, and they decided to go for a second round. However, Che, Vino, and I were going to have dinner out, so I begged off and took a cab home.
After a quick shower, we walked over to Gillman Barracks. It’s quite near, and it might take longer if we took a cab because of all the waiting and the u-turns. Good thing there was an access gate near our place, which cut travel time by a lot.
We had dinner at The Naked Finn, which had a lot of seafood in their menu. Unfortunately, oysters were not among the seafood they had available.
Food was quite nice, but we were a bit blindsided by the server’s prawn recommendation. It was off-menu, so we didn’t know how much it was until we got the bill. Apart from that, food was good, and at least we got Vino to eat some seafood.
Hopscotch was nearby, which was a drinking spot that Che went to with some work colleagues some time back. She said there were oysters there, so we decided to have a quick nightcap.
We got a couple of cocktails, an order of oysters, and some truffle fries. There was a foosball table, which Vino and I immediately played while Che ordered stuff for us. Meanwhile, a lady was playing acoustic music from the 90s, which had me singing, naturally.
At some point, she was asking me to jam with her, but I said I was fine singing from my seat.
The cocktails were ok, and one even had a whole presentation to it. But I think value for money wasn’t there if based on just the drink itself.
Before leaving, we learned that the singer was actually 37, though she looked a lot younger. We learned this because I said she looked younger than her playlist. She was also apparently Filipina.
We walked back home with a bit of a drizzle, but it was a quick walk. We begged off from a gameday as we anticipated rain, but it meant that there wasn’t a lot of presssure for us to wake up super early next day.
It was a surprisngly productive lazy day for us.
