It’s been a while since I last walked, and despite the looming dark rain clouds, I finally got the chance to get back to it this day.
The rainy season is upon us, and there have been stretches of days when we don’t see the sun all day. I’ve planned to walk around again for some time now, but I’ve always chosen sleep over walking these past weeks.
I took this chance after I took Vino to school. There’s a route that is a bit longer than the others, but I wanted to try it once.
I was surprised to see that it took 10 minutes from Vino’s school to the end of the street. I thought I would be faster, but I guess I was going to be walking for a long time.
Some of my friends run and bike, and I see them doing several kilometers in under an hour or so. I thought maybe I could try covering the same distance by walking and see how it’s different.
The route I took was Pasir Panjang, which was around our old neighborhood. I tried looking up how much the rent was for some of the condos I passed by, just to see options. We love it here in Telok Blangah, but since we’re renting, we should always be ready for whatever the owner decides to do with our unit.
At some point of this walk, I was just thinking about prata and curry. I passed by a couple of Indian eateries, but I decided to stop by the Pasir Panjang hawker center.
I once had a Grab driver tell me that it’s a nice place to eat at because there are a couple of stalls that operate for 24 hours and they’re not half bad. Thus far, I’ve only stopped there a grand total of two times – once because I was late going home from Iskina, and another time because my friend worked nearby and we bought takeout food.
After going through the place, I decided to buy chicken murtabak and iced Milo from the stalls near the train stop.
I like murtabak, but every time it gets served to me, I always wonder why I would order such a large serving. This one was nice, not a lot of small bones, but the curry was not as good as the one in Dover. I’m beginning to believe that the Dover one really is one of the best.
The iced Milo was fine. I appreciate shops who make it on the spot and not pour it out from a pre-made mix inside a pitcher.
I thought about riding the bus home, but considering what I ate, I decided to power through and walk all the way home. I can’t say if it’s a good or bad decision, but at least I didn’t have to ice my knees.
After a bit of rest, I went straight to Vino’s school to pick him up. He had football CCA despite the weather, and we needed to go to the dentist.
Thankfully, they were allowed to play football indoors. I saw him talking to his coach as they went to Blue Dot. We walked across to the HDB blocks so we get a Grab booking.
Che and I both had to go through braces, so we hoped to get Vino checked regularly so we can avoid that for him. Unfortunately, it’s looking like he’d need one eventually, since his teeth are all over the place.
Granted, he still has a lot of baby teeth, but from the looks of it, he won’t have straight teeth once everything is out.
Good thing he’s not really as scared of dentists like we were growing up. It helped that the dentist was really nice to kids.
After our session, I dropped by the wine place beside the dentist to get some wines for tomorrow’s party and maybe/hopefully beyond.
I got St. Emillions. It’s a French vineyard that we’ve come to love. So far, we have not tried a St. Emillion that we didn’t like. There are different profiles, yes, and I’m not sure which particular taste got us hooked to it. So far, this, Rioja for Spanish reds, and Chianti for Italian reds are what we like.
We have a little bit of tinola left and some of the meats that Che brought home the other night, so that was going to be dinner. I thought about just cooking Korean ramen for Che when she gets back home, which is just nice for the weather.
After I washed the dishes, I decided to crash beside Vino while watching Endgame. Yes, we finally reached Endgame. He can relate much better now that when he first watched it, and now we’re starting the next phase with Spiderman: Far From Home.
Interestingly, the Spiderman franchise is not in Disney+ again. Luckily, it’s in the built-in app for our living room TV.
Che cleaned up a bit in preparation for tomorrow, and we later moved to the room. I slept a bit earlier than usual because I tried to get Vino to sleep. I was in and out later on, while Che was doing some grocery shopping on Redmart.
I’m still not used to online grocery shopping, so I couldn’t really answer when Che asks me what I need. I guess I’ll see what insertions I’d have on my cart tomorrow when I go to the supermarket for the party things.
