We had a lot of leftovers in the fridge, so it was time to finish some of them so I can cook more for the rest of the week.
Vino liked the quick-fried beef from the day before, so I heated it up for his lunch this day. It was still kind of a lot, so I heated all of it up because Che might want to have some for lunch as well. However, she said she had a thing, so she didn’t ask for a lunch pack.
She went to work, Vino and I went to school, and when I got back, I heated up the leftover food and put some seasoned gojuchang on my rice.
I’ve always hated keeping leftovers for a long time in the fridge. I understand that it’s not good to waste food, but if it’s like three bites of whatever and you have no plans of eating it for the next three days, then it’s best to just throw it away rather than stink up your fridge for days or weeks before throwing it out anyway.
That said, I didn’t want to put the beef back in the fridge since I already heated it up this morning.
Our cleaner came by this day, so I had to wait for her to finish before I picked up Vino. I had to cut short the three-hour session because I couldn’t leave her in the house.
Luckily, the car I booked was nearby, so I was able to reach the school at just the right time. I saw parents were just being let inside the school, so I thought it was just nice. Then Vino told me he had been waiting 10 minutes already, but I had to tell him I saw the parents just come in when I arrived.
He had football session today, so we hung out at the nearby hawker.
During this time, I took a call about Vino’s residential for this year. His batch was headed to Malaysia for a 3D2N trip. The organizers explained some of the details of what’s going to happen during this trip.
Of course, Che and I are worried about this, but Vino said he’s very excited about it. It would be three days without gadgets for them, they get to sleep in their own beds, and the resort that the school is renting out would be exclusive to them – no members of the public are allowed.
I remember being told that after this trip, my friend’s kids wanted their own space. I mean, it’s fine, because it’s bound to happen anyway, but you know the feeling of wanting something when it’s gone? Well, I’m not sure if I’m ready to let go of my baby boy sleeping next to me even if it’s getting inconvenient.
Vino had his siopao and juice combo while I had the call, and around 5:08pm, I decided that it was time to make our move. I didn’t realize it would be really quick, so we again arrived a bit earlier in the venue, which meant we couldn’t go in yet.
I feel that it’s such a hassle, this system that the school is implementing, but I had to respect their rules to let Vino understand that rules are there for a reason.
We didn’t wait long and we were allowed to go in soon. Vino already had a friend who was also walking in, so I let the two of them play.
It’s the school holidays for local schools, so there weren’t as much kids today compared to the past couple of weeks. It also started drizzling a bit, so I wasn’t able to get shooting drills on the court or run with one of the dads.
‘
Instead, the other dads and I talked about a ton of random things – from competitiveness of kids, clinginess of our parents to us and maybe us to our own kids, and messy politics, among others.
After the session, Vino and I went straight home. Che had a girls’ dinner thing, so at least she was not hungry.
I had frozen ramen ready for Vino at home to heat up, and I thought I’d eat some leftover meat from the party Che went to the night before.
Apparently, they had gyro wraps and I guess they had plenty of meat, so Che took home some for me. I got that and wrapped it on my tortilla because, yes, I bought tortilla wraps for Vino’s snacks.
In the spirit of not keeping any leftovers in the fridge as much as possible, I got about half of the packed meat that Che brought home last night and heated it up. I then took out my tortilla wrapper and folded it like a taco to get me a mixed chicken and pork wrap thing.
While it was a fairly easy prep, there were a lot of things to wash still. Che arrived while I was washing dishes, and we later all retired to the room.
Che told me a bit about her day, while Vino tried to sleep.
We got over hump day, so the rest of the week is gonna be a breeze.
