We all started the week playing the roles we were meant to play.
It was a bit difficult to get Vino out of bed, but we were soon out and about because we didn’t want to be late for school again.
It was a bit tight, but we managed to reach school before 8:30am. Vino is scheduled to get back to goalkeeper training after his classes, so I planned on getting food ready so that Che would have some when she got home.
After I took Vino to school, I went on a supermarket run for some ingredients and home stuff.
It’s been raining quite a bit over the past few days, and I have planned to cook tinola since last week. I had the other ingredients except for sayote and chicken.
It shouldn’t take so long to cook, but preps can be challenging. I’ve been cooking for a while now, but I don’t slice things as quickly as other seasoned cooks. I got the stuff ready and put it in the fridge as I went to pick up Vino.
Vino was super sleepy, I guess because he really slept late the night before. He fell asleep at least twice during the ride back.
When we got back home, I started cooking the tinola up until the sayote is soft enough. It’s meant to be finished when either Vino and I get back or if Che arrives first.
On the way to the training grounds, Vino fell asleep again. He needs the rest, so I just let him take as much as he needed.
There were no other kids in this session. I learned from one of the dads that he pulled out his kid from goalkeeper training already, and the other kid training was on vacation.
Hence, it was a one-on-one session for Vino, at least for this session. He has been getting better at being a goalkeeper, but he needs to form some habits. I did not receive training, but I did play with friends who played regularly enough to be told what to do.
I tried forming habits for Vino, but he can’t actualize them when he’s playing. But since he was a kid, he’s been very receptive to people teaching him. From his Chinese teachers to science teachers, down to his swimming coach, he always uses the things he learns from them.
To date, his goalkeeper coach’s instructions on blocking ground balls. It’s become part of his routine already.
For this session, he was taught to scramble for a blocked ball. It’s one of the things with him – he’s long and can really block a lot of shots, but sometimes it gets him out of position to block a rebound. By going after a ball, he will stop the play. It’s only a matter of remembering how to do it.
He also had to block a lot of shots from coach, both on the ground and high. He was taught to keep his hands up, which he did well. He said it was a very painful session, which I totally get.
After their session, coach pulled him aside to speak to him about the reason behind the drills. The hope is he remembers it all and incorporates it to his game.
We got home before Che did, so I cooked the rice and finished the tinola. When she arrived, she said she had been on back-to-back calls since 12 noon. It’s not quite her PH busy, but the new role is presenting its own challenges.
At least we were able to get a hearty dinner before calling it a night. We finished a couple of K-Dramas already and we’re about to start a new one. But for now, we decided to just catch the PH adaptation of It’s Okay to Not Be Okay so that it’s not much of a reading exercise before we sleep.
Gotta get ready for another day tomorrow!
