It wasn’t a very eventful day, but Vino offered what clearly was the highlight of his day.
I had to wake him up today, but he didn’t fight me off too much and was pretty cooperative. At least he’s still excited to come in early to school.
As I made my way back home, I remembered that he left his school tablet at home. We had a cleaner come in, but I thought I had to bring his tablet over to school. Our cleaner has been doing our house for quite some time already, so I was a bit comfortable leaving her at home for a bit.
I went back home to fold some clothes. While the cleaner could do this, I usually do it myself because some clothes need to be hung and whatnot. At least she cleans the floor and the toilets, so that makes life easier.
After she cleaned, I went to Vivo to check out a gift for a birthday we’re attending next day. I thought I’d have late lunch, and I saw that Vivo’s basement was already opened after some time of renovating. There were plenty of options now, including A&W.
However, I thought I’d rather just go to the hawker near Vino’s school so that I’m not too pressed for time. As per usual, I default to Indian food – this time, chicken murtabak instead of prata.
This curry and milo combo is my default go-to when I eat alone. Vino and Che are not big fans, so I try to eat stuff only I like when I’m alone. Besides, the curries here are nicer than when I was in Vietnam, and while I haven’t tried it in the Philippines yet, I thought I’d best maximize them while I’m here.
Vino was playing with Lev when I reached the pickup point, and they added each other on Facetime. After they tested calling each other, we left to go home.
I cleaned up a bit at home, including his lunch box, and we played a bit of 99 Nights with Lev. We aimed to improve on his 25-night finish, but he got disconnected at some point.
We then got ready for football practice. Before we left, Vino tried looking for one of his broken toys that he wanted to keep. When he didn’t find it after 2 minutes of looking for it, he started crying.
I don’t have an issue with Vino crying. I’m happy that he can express his sadness. But there has to be a limit to it. He can’t cry for practically everything he gets upset about.
He was scared that the cleaner might have thrown away his toy. I told him that he is sad because his toy looks like trash, and he’s scared because the cleaner might have mistaken it for trash. I told him that if he doesn’t want his things to be mistaken for trash, he should take better care of it.
“But I was going to clean it,” he said. It wasn’t an excuse, I told him. If he wanted to clean it, he should have cleaned it already and not regret not doing it now that he presumes it’s missing.
When we got to football practice, there was a team playing basketball on the court. So I figured I won’t have the opportunity to play basketball this day. I spent the time taking to one of the dads while we watched our kids play.
They did drills and later went on to play games. With a lot of kids today, coach decided they will have three teams playing king of the court. Vino’s team sat out first while the two other teams played for four minutes.
The winning team stayed and Vino’s team went up. It was a fast-paced game, and they won their first. Then their second. Suddenly, they were undefeated in three games, all clean sheets, thanks to this goalkeeper.
Vino’s team sat, but he remained as the goalkeeper because one of the keepers had an upset stomach. This time, Vino conceded a goal. Later, he conceded two more.
In their final game, he conceded three.
Despite conceding goals, he was still in high spirits. He had some pretty good saves, and while they lost the game, he was happy with his performance. So happy, in fact, that he didn’t hesitate giving me the blog’s title when I asked him how he would name the day.
We went home to some Ippudo, as requested. I wanted to clean up quick and go to bed, but Vino asked to play 99 Nights, so we did.
Che tried calling, but we weren’t answering, so she contacted us through the CCTV. I called her later as she was hanging out with her sisters.
At this time, I learned that Neo, Kali and Arianne’s younger kid, is in the hospital battling dengue. I usually don’t know what to say during these times, so I’m hoping for positive news while silently praying that he gets better. If you’re reading this, please include him in your prayers.
Meanwhile, Vino called Tia for a bit and they played until they both decided they had enough. Waking up early makes him sleepy earlier than usual, which I appreciate. When we transfered to the bedroom, he snuggled for a bit while wearing his glasses and before I knew it, he was out.
Che and her sisters were still hanging out in the hotel, so I just put on Futurama on TV as I drifted to sleep.
We’ll have a relatively busy Saturday, and we’ll welcome Che back home in the evening.
