It was training day Friday, and it was our first dinner out with Vino’s teammates.

There were a lot of things going on in my head over the past few days, but we got some good news in the morning, which I felt was a much-needed win. Che was still working from home, so we didn’t really get to process all the news until later in the day.

Vino missed football practice last Wednesday because we felt that the weather was not so good. However, the rain ultimately didn’t really pour, so I felt like we should have just attended. On this day, the clouds looked like there was going to be heavy rain again, and Vino was looking at it like we could be staying in again.

I told him we’re going to training, because I felt the rain wasn’t going to fall.

For Fridays, he trains with the under 10’s and plays with them together with the under 13’s, so it’s a bit more challenging and more physical. He felt really bad after the first session with the bigger boys, but he’s since gained a bit of confidence.

Last week, he had a good session with them, and I think he’s not so scared going out there with them. I told him it’s going to help make him better, like going up a difficulty level on a video game.

While waiting for him, I opted to do some shootarounds on the basketball court. I played in a game last weekend, but it was more a cardio workout for me because my hands weren’t so used to handling the ball. We had league games coming up, so I figured I should try playing again.

After training, Vino and I joined a couple of his teammates for dinner. His two teammates usually got together to eat dinner nearby before going home on Fridays, and Vino usually asked me why those two boys rode in the same car. I didn’t want to invite myself to their thing, so I just told Vino to just let them be.

Recently, we learned that we lived close to one of the guys. As such, he offered to give us a ride home whenever he’s picking up his kid – an offer I welcomed wholeheartedly. They told us about their Friday thing, and I said we’ll join them sometime.

With Che going out to have a thing with friends, we opted to join the boys for dinner. It was supposed to be pizza, but apparently, the dad promised Sushi Tei to his kid, so that’s where we went.

Ordering took a while because the boys decided to use the ordering tablet themselves. Meanwhile, the dads all had the same preference – salad.

In another time, maybe I would have had rice or sushi rolls. However, I’ve been trying to cut down on weight and cholesterol, so greens it was for me. The other dads were also fairly active and watching out for the same things, so at least we had that going for all of us.

The boys were enjoying each other’s company, which was nice to sse. It was good to know that they can get along even outside the pitch. The dads and I were still getting to know each other, so conversations flowed freely.

We got home a little past 9 and hung out until Che came home. Vino was still playing on his tablet and it looked like he could stay up for longer. However, we knew he was really tired, so we asked him to sleep already. With all the energy he used up this day, it wasn’t surprising that he was knocked out within five minutes.

This day turned out to be a good way to welcome the weekend for all of us, and we planned to celebrate it more tomorrow.
