Today was supposed to be Vino’s first day of school, or so we thought.
We were all set to send Vino off to school today, so I got up extra early to cook rice, his breakfast, and his lunch. As per usual, I woke him up once everything was ready.
It was an efficient morning for us, so we were able to go down before 8am. Unfortunately, I got two Grab cancellations, so it was still a bit tight for us to reach school before 8:30am.
I fell asleep in the car, and when I woke up, we were near the school already. I was surprised that the side gate was closed even before 8:30am, but what was missing was kids heading in. Suddenly, I got a realization: there was still no classes today.
In my calendar, I put April 20 as still Vino’s school holiday, because there was some kind of teacher training going on. It was only confirmed once we reached the guard house and there was no queue of cars. Still, our ride was supposed to end there, and the driver insisted that we were late, that’s why we don’t see any other people.
I knew better, though, and we got a few laughs from some teachers and staff that we saw that morning. I had to tell Che about it as we waited for our bus to come. We also saw a couple of older kids in uniform, so I think we’re not the only ones who made this mistake.
Still, Vino wouldn’t let me hear the end of it. Both Che and I failed to check the calendar, but Vino and his friend were also so sure that classes started today. Even the mom said she was happy that things will be quieter by Monday.
However, they were fetched by a school bus, so I guess when the bus didn’t pick them up, they didn’t need to go, unlike us, who reached all the way to school before the realization.
At home, Vino enjoyed his extra day while I dealt with our massive laundry loads. I’m spreading out the laundry from our trip and the laundry from the previous week because I could only hang a few. I learned that we have a lot of clothes that are a bit sensitive and quickly shrink if tumble-dried.
Lunch was quick, as we had leftovers from their delivery last night, and I had veggies for myself. I need to get back on track with my diet after neglecting my no-meat and no-rice policy when we were in Korea. Thankfully, I didn’t gain much from the trip and stayed around 82kgs.
Of course, more than the weight, I should also be watching my cholesterol levels, so I need to somehow detox from all the meat I had from the trip.
For dinner, I cooked up some bistek and veggies on the side for a quick fix. We’ve had food delivery way too much over the past week, and now that we already have groceries delivered, I wanted to cook a home-cooked meal for us, even a simple one.
Che had a busy day, while Vino enjoyed his time with his friends online most of the day. We’re really going back to normal tomorrow, as it will truly be Vino’s first day back in school.
