I got a chance to meet up with an old friend as we talked about navigating LDRs.
I’m privileged enough to be staying with both Che and Vino here in Singapore. With The Little Red Dot’s rules and whatnot, a lot of friends I know have to sacrifice leaving their families in the PH while they work here.
It certainly is not without its sacrifices. We both play a role that we agreed on, and at the end of the day, our family is together, and that’s what matters to us.
Over the past three months, we had a glimpse of the LDR life with Che being assigned to a significant role in the PH. Even if we were with her through the month of July, she was hardly present, but it was exactly why we wanted to be there – so that we were present for her.
I could only imagine how it would be for my friends, Angel and Jeremy. Even when we talked briefly in the PH, Angel got emotional just thinking about the coming months.
Jeremy got a role that sent him to SG, while Angel and Damien stayed back in the PH. Over the past couple of months, I could only answer her questions about SG life to the best of my abilities, but I don’t know how else I could help her.
We also no longer have an extra room that we could have offered to Jeremy so that he could live close to where he works.
It was Angel and Damien’s last day in SG before they headed back to the PH, so we took the chance to meet for brunch.
We caught up with what’s going on with our lives, and I was just looking to make sure they’re both going to be ok. We talked about life here in SG, hoping that they could both adjust to the new norm they are experiencing.
I’m trying to offer whatever activities I can to Je so that Angel can be assured that he’ll be fine here, but he is staying with family, so it may not be too big of a concern for her.
I’m hopeful that they can find an arrangement where they could all be together here for the duration of Jeremy’s contract (or maybe longer). For now, it’s all about sharing stories of what I do when I’m alone while Che is away or at work and Vino is in school.
They are one of the best couples I know, and I feel how much they are struggling being away from each other for this long.
After Damien played at Botanic Gardens, I rushed home because we had groceries delivered. It had been sitting outside our house for a couple of hours already, but it was a small window of time where I could meet Angel, Je, and Damien so I made the most of it. Thankfully, the cold stuff were still cold, and the frozen stuff were still frozen.
I put the groceries where they were supposed to be and went off to pick up Vino. It was another hot day, so I asked him not to play on the field anymore. After all, the kids he wanted to play with all went home.
When we returned from school, I started my next battle, folding the laundry.
I put it off for a few days already, as we had an activity-filled weekend. But of course, it had to be done at some point. It’s my arch-nemesis, and I’ll soon find a way to get Vino to become my sidekick in fighting this evil.
We’ve tried before, as I gave him some easy things to fold. But, like Che to my packing, I usually re-fold the things he’s done, so I decided against it, unless I find a way to make it easier for him to fold the clothes. I saw this video of a folding carton, which I think I’ll explore as a project one of these days.
Vino later asked me to play 99 Nights in the Forest again, as Tia was online. I’m still aiming to get a badge where I don’t die for 100 days. Because it feels easy now, I usually get careless and die before I reach my goal.
On this day, I reached about Day 72 or something, which is kinda frustrating.
I cooked beef and broccoli for dinner after I died and Tia got disconnected. I got everything done within 45 minutes – the timing of when our rice cooker would finish cooking our rice.
After dinner, I washed dishes and put the clothes back in the cabinets. In the process, I changed our bedsheets.
Our ENT session and even our dentist mentioned that allergies can also manifest through bedsheets, so they recommended that we replace it once every three days or something. It’s been more than a week since we changed the sheets, so I guess it was time to do it.
Vino was watching Avengers: Age of Ultron in the living room, so I just finished doing what I had to do so that he’ll be comfy with new sheets.
However, I came out to see this him already fast asleep before 10pm.
I decided to take a bath and blowdry my hair before picking him up and putting him on the bed. Sometimes during this process, he would wake up and maybe look for a snack. Today, he just continued to sleep.
It was a rare chance to sleep early, so after a little bit of doomscrolling and mindless fun with Candy Crush, I got some sleep as well.
Another day done, aiming to tick off at least one of the tasks I’m supposed to do for housekeeping tomorrow.
