Today marked Vino’s last day of Year 3.

I remember the conversation I had with a parent the other day. She was like “thank God, it’s the last day of school!” Then it dawned on her that she needed to think of something for the kids to do for the next 6-8 weeks, and she went “oh my God, it’s the last day of school!”

It’s going to be the last time in a while that he’s gonna have this face super early (by his standards) in the morning so we can prep for school.

To be fair, this boy usually wakes up with a laugh. But if he slept late, he needs to drag himself out of bed and would sit like this on the dining table.

It was going to be half day this day, and they could wear whatever they liked.

He chose party clothes last time because it was their class party, but I guess he got a different idea this time around.

I needed to go home quickly as we scheduled a cleaner. Once that was done, it was just enough time to travel all the way to pick up Vino from school.

I learned from his teacher the other day that Dover Court had a tradition on the last day of school. All the buses would leave at the same time, and all the teachers and staff would line up to wave goodbye to everyone.

It was a nice, symbolic thing to mark the end of the school year.

Vino and I went to check it out, so we passed by the teachers. It also kinda felt nice that his teachers were all saying goodbye to him for this school year.

It was quite a wait, but Vino said he also wanted to see. It had a festive atmosphere with kids waving from the buses, the buses honking their horns, and everyone outside waving goodbye and cheering everything going on.

Vino just had lunch, so he asked if we could go home. Since he didn’t want to go anywhere in particular, I asked him to come with me while I played basketball.

On a daily basis, my basketball group would list down names to see if they can complete at least a 10-man roster to play.

If it’s not complete by 2pm, there will be no game.

On this day, there were only 7 who signed up. I was confident that it would be complete so I didn’t put my name in yet. However, someone pointed out that there aren’t enough players listed yet, so I put my name in.

Suddenly, a lot of guys committed.

By the time I got there at 4PM, there were already 13 guys ready to play, which meant I was going to play in the second game already. Overall, about 25 guys showed up.

I played football with Vino while waiting, and when I was up, he went on to play on my phone.

Shooting was bad. I missed a lot of open shots, so after my first game, I tried to shoot to get some kind of rhythm going.

I played another game, and I was spent. But there were some guys who wanted to play, so I was kinda forced to play one more.

We are all mostly old, so two to three games is the limit for us. There are a few people who said goodbye and will say goodbye this year, but we met a lot of new people as well. Basketball will never really stop here as long as Filipinos are in Singapore.

I like being able to play and laugh more than I sweat. Basketball, whoever I play with, will always be my personal peace.

We went home for some Adobo, which Vino has been requesting for a couple of days already.

I prepped it earlier so there’s not much work to be done but heat it up for our dinner.

Got a bit of rest and some ice on my knees right after because, again, old.

Vino has a playdate tomorrow, so I asked him to sleep early. I think he was too excited to sleep, so there was a bit of wrestling going on before he fell asleep.

Che was in a team dinner that went late. When she’s here or if she doesn’t like the people around too much, she tends to check up on us quite a bit.

I always tell her that we’re fine and she should just enjoy herself, but the homebody in her chooses to find excuses to leave early.

On this night, she didn’t message much which was kinda worrying but comforting at the same time. On one hand, at least she’s not overly worried about us and is hopefully enjoying herself. But on the other, I kind of worry if there was something wrong.

As a not-so-early-to-sleep guy, I was still awake when she updated me. I’m rewatching Breaking Bad on Netflix as a background movie so that I don’t have to rely on subtitles to understand it.

It’s good that she doesn’t have to worry about an early flight at least. For me, waking up past my alarm on a weekday is a good enough sleep already.

Busy first day of the school break tomorrow!

Plus we are complete again for the weekend before we all go fly out to the PH for the month.
