With Saturday not really too busy, I got a good start to Sunday.

I was able to start the blog early, and once Che and Vino woke up, we went down to explore the new hawker place that opened just near our block.

There’s not a lot going on, but it’s good to see that the neighbors are coming by to try it. They had bee hoon, some zi char, western food, and a coffee stall that had toasts.

Sadly, there was no chicken rice stall that also sold crispy pork. But it’s fine, the zi char (similar to turo-turo in the PH) spot was pretty good.

Vino saw Che breaking and mixing the soft-boiled eggs for her kaya toast and he got curious. Since he was still waiting for his ham and cheese sandwich to cool down, he asked to try the kaya toast dipped in the eggs. He finished one and left the other for Che.

When people ask me what Vino likes to eat, the easy answer is really ramen, but I’m trying to instill a certain curiosity in him especially when it comes to food. Living away from home and being blessed with the ability to travel to different countries, I want him to be adventurous in exploring places through food.

Sometimes, he would react as if he’s getting punished if I ask him to try something, especially if he already has his own food. So it’s nice to see that this time around, he was the one who asked to try it.

Later, we got lunch from the zi char place and Vino chose to go back to default kid mode – chicken popcorn and rice from the western food stall.

Since we stayed home, Che had a bit of time to use the treadmill (finally, for the second or third time). I keep telling her she needs it, but she never really has time for it. Between sleeping and exercising on her free time, she always chooses sleep, which I can’t blame her for.

Meanwhile, I went up against my nemesis – the laundry.

For those who don’t know, before I got married, I had everything taken care of for me. I never had to cook, never had to clean, heck, I never even had to fix my own bed.

It’s a luxury that my parents let me experience.

Of course, I didn’t turn out to be an idiot. They did teach me to do these things later on, but I didn’t really need to put it into practice.

However, when I moved to Singapore, I had to learn to do my own housework because no one was going to do it for me and for us.

Cooking took time, but I have come to love it. Laundry was easy because I just had to stuff it in the washing machine.

The real enemy is folding the clean clothes.

Sometimes, I would wash, dry, then harvest clothes for me to fold later on. As a result, I would end up with a mountain that I don’t know when I would conquer.

This was the day I conquered it.

Of course, that also means a new batch of clothes will soon start to pile up again. But that’s a challenge for another day.

After folding clothes and washing dishes, I got a call from my cousin, who was visiting my uncle.

It was kinda planned, but not really. Three groups of family decided to come by without really talking to each other and they all ended up in a big gathering instead of a simple one.

We had a video call for a bit, so it kinda felt like I was also part of the whole gathering.

Growing up, there was a phase in my life when every weekend, the Lozada family in the metro would have some sort of gathering. No special occasion, just a get-together to share some laughs.

There will be times when the host would be prepared and cook a little something for everyone, but there are times when someone would put out for pizza or something. Then whoever won tong-its (card game) will get the next round of food or drinks.

As the years went by and we all had our own things to do, it would no longer be a norm on weekends.

A spontaneous visit like this is a reminder of those days, and I appreciate being a part of it somehow despite being miles away from them. Thank you, technology.

We attended mass late this Sunday and went on to eat dinner at our usual Thai place in Great World.

You know you’ve been going to a place regularly when the server greets you with a “long time no see!”

Lights out was early by regular standards, as we had another busy week ahead of us.
